Job opportunity: E-commerce Assistant at tap-in plumbers merchants, Keighley, West Yorkshire

We have an exciting opportunity to join the team at tap-in Supplies Ltd in Keighley, West Yorkshire, as an E-commerce Assistant.

Tap-in is a well-established plumbers merchants previously known as Richard Craven. In 2019, we set out to modernise the business for the digital age with a new name, new branding, and new e-commerce website. This meant that when the Covid-19 pandemic hit we were able to offer our customers (who are mostly tradespeople working in Keighley and surrounding areas) a ‘click and collect’ service so that they could browse products online or order what they needed over the phone with the same advice and aftercare they are used to, and then safely and quickly pick up supplies from our Covid-secure store. We were also able to push online sales with fast free delivery across West Yorkshire to both existing and new customers.

As an independent small business with 30+ years of experience and an extensive portfolio of high quality heating and bathroom supply products from the UK’s leading brands, we are in a strong position to grow our e-commerce offering and drive more online sales across the region and nationally. However, we face tough competition from national online retailers and our ‘traditional’ customer base still like to buy in-store, even if they browse online first. We are looking at ways to address this through our digital marketing and we need to make sure that the product listings on our website are as comprehensive and user-friendly as possible and that the specifications, stock levels, and pricing are kept up to date so that when we do get the opportunity to secure online sales, we don’t miss out because of poor user experience.

E-commerce Assistant job specification

We are looking for someone with strong administrative and spreadsheet/data skills who can ‘hit the ground running’ as our E-commerce Assistant on either a full time or part time basis for an initial six month fixed-term contract with the possibility of being made permanent.

Skills required
  • Proficient in the use of Excel spreadsheets and other Microsoft Office software.
  • Digitally savvy with basic knowledge of SEO, able to work with technology efficiently and under pressure.
  • Strong written English.
  • Highly organised individual able to manage own workload and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Detail-orientated with a focus on accuracy.
  • Team player who can also work independently.
  • Personable with good communication skills.

Roles and responsibilities
  • Data input – much of your role will involve accurately and efficiently inputting product data into spreadsheets and web forms, inserting the correct information into the right places and adding missing information.
  • Product research – you will need to be able to research detailed technical product information.
  • Product description writing – you will need to be able to write engaging product descriptions with relevant key words.
  • Website content management – you will be given training in how to use our ‘OrderWise’ website to upload, update, and organise product listing information, images and documents and will need to use your digital skills to ensure that this is maintained effectively on an ongoing basis.
  • Search engine optimisation (SEO) – you will ensure that links are working correctly and that tap-in is performing as well as possible in search engine rankings for key product areas.
  • Website testing and competitor analysis – you will be expected to ensure that the website is performing to its maximum potential and monitoring competitor activity for new ideas on an ongoing basis.
  • Customer service – you may be asked to answer the phone, chase orders with suppliers, and deal with online customers as part of your role.
Experience and qualifications
  • Minimum GCSE level Maths and English.
  • This is an entry-level role but ideally the candidate would have a good knowledge of e-commerce and data management, and some experience of doing this.
  • Any e-commerce related training and qualifications are desirable but not required.
